Dr Theresa Ly:  Sydney: Chair

Theresa Ly has been involved with Rose Charities International and Rose Charities Australia since its early beginnings in early 2007. She graduated in 2009 from the University of Sydney with a medical degree and is working in the public hospital system as part of her training. She is currently completing a Masters of International Public Health at the University of New South Wales. Throughout her medical degree she has experienced different hospital systems- predominantly in Asia and has been able to experience the complexities of international health through a placement at the World Health Organisation in Geneva. Theresa is proud of Rose Charities Australia’s steady growth and development, but she is most proud of the hardworking group of people (based in Australia and overseas!) who strive and persist to achieve Rose Charities Australia’s goals and aspirations.

Ms. Penny Kendall:  Sydney: Hon Sec/Treasurer

Penelope Kendall has been involved with Rose Charities Australia since 2008 and recently visited the Rose Cambodia Rehabilitation Centre in 2010. She graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Laws in 1978 and gained an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management. She has been an active Director taking on the role of both Secretary and Treasurer- the Board much appreciates her enthusiasm and skills. She has been involved in community projects over many years and is keen on staying on with Rose Charities Australia projects.

Ms. Rosemary Jones: Sechelt B.C: Founder

Rosemary is a Rotarian/ Hospice worker and has in fact been a graphic artist for 13 years. She has owned shops for design and furniture restoration. She has been friends with William Grut for many many years and this brought her to create Rose Charities Australia with him. She travelled to Cambodia and worked with local surgeons in 2006 and was amazed at the work that was accomplished in eye surgery, the treatment of burns victims and the great service that was provided to the local Cambodians. She was introduced to the current Board members and has watched with pride the marvelous group set up and establish Rose Charities Australia over the past few years.

Ms Sarah Miller: Sydney

Sarah Miller has been a Director for Rose Charities Australia since its inception. She graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of International Studies in 2000 and from the University of Sydney with a Masters in Development in 2007. For the last 3 years, Sarah has been working and living in Cambodia. Sarah worked in Cambodia through the Australian Government’s Australian Youth Ambassador for Development (AYAD) and Volunteering for International Development from Australia (VIDA) programs. This was an extremely rewarding, life-changing experience and Sarah is pleased that she can continue to be involved in development, particularly in Asia, through her work with Rose Charities Australia.

Ms. Joanna Thomson: Perth

Joanna Thomson has worked as a physiotherapist in a variety of roles over the last 8 years. Predominantly working in paediatrics, she has experience in both acute hospital physiotherapy care and community and primary healthcare. She has worked in Australia, the United Kingdom and now in Cambodia as an Australian Youth Ambassador for Development (AYAD) at the Rose Rehab project. Joanna has established an amazing network in the field of physiotherapy and development in Cambodia and is an enormous asset to Rose Rehab and Rose Charities Australia in-country.

Dr. Chelsea McMahon: Sydney

Chelsea McMahon has been a director of Rose Charities Australia since 2007 after completing 3 months as a medical volunteer in Cambodia. During this time she was closely involved with the Rose and Operation First projects. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a medical degree in 2005 and has since been working in various hosptials in the public health system. She is currently doing her advanced training in Endocrinology. She is proud of the progress of Rose Australia and grateful to the hard work of her colleagues.

Dr. Simon Andrade: Melbourne

Dr Simon Andrade is a General Practitioner in Melbourne.  He trained in London and emigrated to Australia in 1988.
Having lived in Western Australia for 18 years he relocated to Melbourne in 2006. He has an interest in Travel and Tropical Medicine and is currently studying for the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygeine.

Dr William Grut: Vancouver

A physician with specialization in tropical medicine, Will has wide experience in international development and assistance , including emergency relief. He has been working in aid and development since 1992 including the establishment of multiple projects and/or organizations in Asia and Africa in health and education. He participated in relief teams on ground in Mexico (earthquake) and Philippines (typhoon) relief, and the organization of multiple emergency relief initiatives in Pakistan, Indonesia, USA (Katrina), Central America, New Zealand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. Will currently participates  in a variety of development projects and is a leader in the Rose Charities network (currently 22 countries).  He is actually one of the full time organizers of the Rose Charities network. Will lives in Vancouver, Canada and is an  Assistant Clinical Professor at B.C.’s Childrens hospital.
